Publication Ethics

The Language and English Journal (LEJ) is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to upholding high ethical standards throughout the publication process. This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in publishing an article in ELJ, including authors, the editor-in-chief, the editorial board, reviewers, and the publisher. This statement is based on the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Author Ethics

Reporting: Authors must report their research processes and findings honestly, clearly, accurately, thoroughly, and objectively. Data must be presented truthfully, and all research information must be well-documented and preserved.
Originality: Authors must certify that the manuscript is original, has not been published elsewhere in any language, and is not under consideration for publication by another journal. Cases of duplication or plagiarism may result in the article being withdrawn.
Source Transparency: Authors must properly cite all sources used in the manuscript. It is strictly forbidden to use someone else's work without appropriate acknowledgment.
Responsibility: Authors are fully responsible for the content of their manuscript, including research methods, data analysis, calculations, and interpretation. They must respond accurately and fairly to any inquiries from editors or reviewers.
Authorship and Acknowledgment: All individuals listed as authors must have made significant contributions to the manuscript and agree to its final version. Any changes to the list of authors (additions, deletions, or rearrangements) must be approved by all co-authors. Contributors who did not meet authorship criteria but supported the research (e.g., technical or financial support) should be properly acknowledged.
Timeliness: Authors are expected to revise and return their manuscripts promptly to maintain the publication schedule. Failure to meet deadlines may result in publication delays.
Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and respect the intellectual property and privacy rights of others. Any conflicts must be resolved fairly and responsibly.

Editor Ethics

Neutrality: Editors must be impartial and objective in manuscript selection and decision-making, without discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, religion, race, or nationality.
Transparency: Editors must provide clear and accurate feedback to authors based on the quality, completeness, and clarity of the manuscript, as well as adherence to publication guidelines.
Effective Communication: Editors must communicate efficiently with authors, reviewers, and journal staff. Suggestions and criticisms should be conveyed in a constructive and transparent manner.
Fair Distribution: Manuscripts should be distributed to editorial team members and reviewers based on their expertise and subject relevance.
Professionalism: Editors must carry out their responsibilities professionally and ethically, ensuring that every manuscript undergoes a proper and fair peer-review process.
Accountability: Editors are accountable for all editorial decisions and must ensure that only original and high-quality articles are published.
Conflict of Interest: Editors must avoid any conflicts of interest and handle any that arise with fairness and transparency.

Reviewer Ethics

Impartiality: Reviewers must conduct objective and unbiased reviews, free from personal or professional conflicts of interest. They must not review manuscripts in which they have a direct or indirect interest.
Expertise and Professionalism: Reviewers should assess manuscripts critically within their areas of expertise, maintain confidentiality, and avoid using unpublished material for personal advantage. Reviewers should decline review assignments outside their field and suggest more suitable reviewers if necessary.
Quality Assurance: Reviewers are responsible for evaluating the scientific merit, originality, and relevance of the manuscript. They should focus on content and methodology, not language or formatting issues unless requested.
Punctuality: Reviewers must complete reviews within the agreed timeframe. If unable to meet the deadline, they should promptly notify the editor.
Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and act ethically to avoid compromising the integrity of the review process.

Journal Management Ethics

Editorial Decision-Making: Journal managers are responsible for defining the journal’s vision, mission, and scope, ensuring editorial decisions are made based on scholarly merit and free from external influence or bias.
Editorial Independence: Managers must respect the autonomy of editors and reviewers, and support a collaborative and respectful working environment. They are also responsible for ensuring compliance with ethical standards, including confidentiality and research ethics.
